Growl doesn't work by default under Leopard Mail.app, because of the revised plugin architecture. However, some simple terminal hackery will get it working for you (once you have the growmail bundle installed):
I did that on the terminal after installing growlmail, and then launched mail... and yes, i didn't get any error message. But i don't get any notification on new mail!
Same thing for me.I have configured growl on both sides. Skype notifications works fine. But no notification for mail. I even enable notification on junk. any idea how to make this works ?
Really useful hint. You should submit it to MacOSXHints if you haven't already. I also use Mail.appetizer. Which is a great program, but it seems it's no longer in development. Which is a shame.
Hi, how do i have to use this hack ? I've opened terminal, copy and past the first line and then press enter, then copy and paste the second line and press enter, but it did not work.. Thanks for helping me
Another tip that might help for those having trouble: just for safety, I made sure Mail was not running when I did the two defaults commands in Terminal.
Anyone having crashing problems after this? Sometime after I enabled this my mail crashes randomly when I start it up, after I click any of the buttons on a "Mail cannot verify the identity of this [secured server]."
This isn't working for me either unfortunately. DId all the steps. I can't seem to reinstall growl however since the author's site is down. Anyone know if he relocated his site or files?
having the same issue, what is the current best way to turn on growlmail for leopard 10.5.2, none of these terminal hacks work anymore, any chance of releasing a new version of growlmail optimized for leopard? I really miss it!! thanks so much!

Wow, thanks works great! I was worried I'd be without growl mail now that I have Leopard but thanks to you it works perfectly.

Make sure growlmail is turned on both inside Mail.app AND inside Growl (in the system preferences).
Works fine for me!

Mark -- word from the Mail.appetizer developer is that he will be releasing an updated version as soon as he has a working Leopard system.

Nope.
i followed all the steps, but when starting Mail, it puts up a window saying:
"Bundle Compatibility Warning
Mail has disabled the following installed bundles:
GrowlMail
Please contact the makers of these bundles for a version compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Mail before reinstalling them."
Oh, well.
